The outstanding sporting event of the week was undoubtedly the V.B.C. night te, and I am glad the Club was so generously support. ed on such a stormy night by the public, who in their turn, must have been gratised by the excellent pro gramme, the keen competition, and the close finishes. As generally ex- pected, our Chinese friends did very well and gave a good account of themselves. They were beaten out of a place in the team race, but not many people know that two of their

[Bx "WATERMAN."]
Despite the heavy rain yesterday evening there was a very good gathering at the VB.C. to see the day's water polo matches. The Somerset Light Infantry scored their first success this season at the expense of the K08.B. "B" in the opening match and in the second match the Kowloon "A" defeated the KO.S.B:"A" Some old timers appeared in the latter game, as will be seen below, and did very good service, particularly Angus, who played goalie for 'Kowloon several years ago. At one time I thought the Club de Recreio was going to account for the V.R.C.. but Young Boza Pereira disappointed. This swimmer is not so good over the two lengths as he used to be, but he is still mighty force in the longer races, and I would not be surprised to see him walk away with the Harbour Race this year. Still, that is a long way ahead, and I don't want to speculate on competitors' chances just yet.

The Borderers started things by testing Angus with long shot through Wilson. They kept up the Pressure for a while until Railton (who by the way had just left the sick bed) broke through for them and passed to Witchell, who had hard luck in not, beating the goalie, bis shot touching the horizontal and bouncing back into play. Shortly afterwards Goldman had a good opportunity but tame back-
