The lifeboat will cost between £17,000 and £18,000 and will be stationed at Dover.

The object of the Institution is to provide a lifesaving vessel fast enough to go to the assistance of any aeroplane forced down in the Channel.

The new boat will be 64 feet by 14 feet. She will have two cabine with room for about 50 people. Whereas the most powerful lifeboats at present have two 80 horsepower engines this new type will have two engines of 373 horse-power each.

She will also be fitted with wire- less telephony enabling her to take and send messages over a distance of 50 miles.

Four shipping companies have responded to the appeal made by the Prince of Wales, in his presidential address at the last annual meeting of the Institution, that they should provide lifeboats.
