TWO MEN AND TWO MARROWS.

HONG KONG'S FLOWER AND VEGETABLE SHOW.

ALL THE WINNERS.

[BY RAMBLER:”]

This year's annual how at the Hong Kong Horticultural Society, held at the Headquarters of the Volunteer Defence Corps, was essentially a floral one. The absence of rain during the past few months has had a devastating effect upon the efforts of amateur gardeners, but, nevertheless, the flowers on exhibit pro- vided a gorgeous display of colour and certain of the exhibits of vegetables were quite up to average standard.

Entries were considerably smaller than in previous years, but it was also apparent that a gallant attempt had been made by the "Society to hide this fact as far as possible by encouraging exhibi- tors to enter in as many classes te possible.

The Man Who Wapt Jay shed tears, tears that caused an elderly lady to put up her mm brella.

Leeks as long as Queen'ï Road" he gasped.Onions ar lurge as a gasometer! Imagine peeling them--

I did, and wept in company with Jay.

Now it is on record that in all Chins no marrows are equal in length, girth, and weight to the

miarrows of The Peak. I mention- ed this to Mr. J. A H. Plummer and requested him to lead is from the nerve-racking display of onions

and leeks to the more serere in- Auence of the marrows,

"Bere," said Mr. Plummer airily, "we have a fine display of petunia and verbena Kowloon Cricketers last several matches last 161600 through forsaking the wicket to water the Club garden. Then here we have Dr. Mont- gomery's mammoth savoys, Bumour bas it that the doctor has been trying gland experiments with them. Each one of these savoys, has been trained by hand and taught to murmur ninety-nine' at the right of a stethoscope. Lost at the green of them! Look at the size of them! Look at the ---.'! What about the marrows interposed Jay.

Mr. Tse frowned at this levity. Thea His Excellency the Governor arrived and the band suddenly truck up the National Anthem. He dropped the two marrows and I left him searching for them, on his hands and knees, in the grass.
