The system of Travellers Cheques was originated in 1891 by the America's Express Company with the object of creating a form of lawrel fourrency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and aithe same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the cheques under the trade name of AMERICAN HIPRESS TRAVELERS CHEQUES the wond Travellers being spelled with on. The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the wystem."
