MODERATE IMPORTA.

HEAVY THROUGH CARGO,

The general cargo returns for the 43 hours over the week-end showed modernic imports and heavy through cargo. A slight improve ment was shown in yesterday's re- turns 'over Saturday's figures. Thirty-fre arrivals and forty-three departures were shown of which ten arrivals and eleven departures were British.

Japanese vessels. Doticeably heavy carriers British returns were only moderate.

Saturday's Statement. Fourteen arrivals and twenty departures were shown for the period ending at 9 am on Satur- day of which three arrivals and five departures were British. Cargo for Hong Kong was not very good, bul through freights were satisfactory. Japanese vessels were best cargo carriers.

Nine vessels discharged. 6,328 tons of general merchandise for Hong Kong. The two beat returns were from the s Havelland | (German) arriving from Hamburg and Singapore with 2,842 tools of general cargo, and the aa.. Yelyei Maru (Japanese) from Moji with

2,300 tons of cement.

Through freights from six ships amounted to 93,133 tons, and two

Fourteen vessels bad 8,102 tons of cargo for Hong Kong of which four were British with 1,336 tons. The heaviest carriers were the & Nor viken (Norwegian) with 3,229 toms of rice from Bangkok and the r.s Tjisarea (Dutch) with 2,440 tons of general cargo from Sourabaya and Muntok.

Cargo carried through amounted to 23,413 tons. Of the eleven car- riers, four were British with 3,569 tons The two beat returns were by the s.8. President Hayes (American) from Boston and Shanghai with 4,884 tons of general cargo, and the a.s. Tataumia Maru (Japanese) from Kobe and Iloilo with 4,170 tona.

The Week's Freights,

During the week-from Monday a.m. to yesterday 9 am-73,000 tons of general merchandise was discharged by incoming vessels to Hong Kong This figure is a big drop on the previous week which is over 50,000 tons higher. Mer. chandise carried through to porta beyond the Colony amounted to 139,893 tona, an increase of over 4,000 tons over the previous week.
