VERY GOOD CARGO TOTALS.

YESTERDAY'S HEAVY IMPORTS,

The general cargo returns during the week-end were very good. For the period ending Saturday 9 a the imports shown were about average, while there was a heavy total of through freights. Tester- day's imports were extremely good and over three times as heavy as Saturday's, with good contribu tions from British ships.

rived here yesterday is a new vessel to this port. The ship was built in 1995 by Messrs. Swan Hunter and Wickham Richardson, Ltd., of New. castle,. for the British India S.N: Company. The vessel has a gross tonnage of 7,745 tone, and a nett tonnage of 4,835 tons. Her dimen- sions are Length 436.1 feet, Bean 57.8 feet and Depth 32.5 feet. Her engines were installed by the builders and develop 301 N.H.P The vessel carried a cargo of coal and general cargo.

Through freight amounted to 21,022 tons, and of the seven car- riers, three wore British with 1,906 tons. The best carriers were the s.8, Denmark (Danish) with 8,900 tons of general merchandise from Copen- hagen and Singapore, and the s.3. President McKinley with 6,900 tons.

Yesterday's Statement

The general cargo returns were even higher for the period ending 9 am yesterday. Twenty-two ar- rivals and twenty-two dopartures were shown of which, ten arrivals, and ten departures were British. British contributions to the cargo returns were high; but Japanese vessels, were best cargo carriers

Deaths At Sas.

The master of the 23. President McKinley which arrived here from. Seattle and Shanghai reports the death of a Chinese female steerages passenger from tuberculosis and the death of a deck passenger on December 29th, 1999, is also reported by the as.
