CARGO TOTALS IMPROVE. »

HEAVY BRITISH THROUGH FREIGHTS.

The general cargo returns for the period ending at 9am. yesterday showed a substantial increase over the previous day's figures. Both importa and through cargo were well over the average with a beary total of through cargo carried by British ships,

There were fifteen arrivals and sixteen departures, and the British resuras were four arrivals, and five departures the Chinese being three arrivals and seven departures.

Eleven vessels discharged mer. chandise for this pert amounting to 10,233 tons, of which 4,787 totis were carried by British ships. Two for eign vessels were shown as best car riers The ss Timaneck from Sourabaya had 3,648 tons, while the 1. Deviken (Norwegian) discharg: ed 3,000 tons.

Through freights carried by eight ships amounted to 23,315 tons and four British ships carried 9,263 tons. The best carrier British ship, the 5.5 dchilles (Blue Funac Line) with 8,200 tons of general cargo from Swansea and Singapore. The s. Varda (Ger- man) parried 7,700 tons of general from Hamburg and Singapore.
