The general cargo returns for the period ending at 9 a.m. yesterday were very low. There were fifteen 'arrivals and eleven departures of which seven arrivals and three de partures were British ships British ships were best importers, while Dutch and American vessel carried the heaviest through freights,

Nine vessels discharged 8,383 tons of merchandise for this port and 4 British ships contributing 3,236 toos The as Lycemoon (British) |, from Saigon had 2,470 tons, and the ss. Kiung Chow (British) dis banged 1,800 tons from Bangkok and Hoihow. The former vessel has several times headed the list of cargo carriers

Captain K. H. Ruthberg, master of the s.s. Atlantic (Norwegian) was summoned to appear before Commander J. B. Newill, D.S.D., R.. at the Marine Court yester day morning at the instance of Mr. "C. H. Thompson, the Board- ing Officer, for entering the port carrying twelve passengers in ex-

cess of the number allowed in his vessel.

Making Fast To Vessel Underway. Seven boat people appeared be- fore the Marine Magistrate for making fast to the s.5. Kiung Chow whilst the vessel was underway in the harbour..

The defendants said that the vessel arrived at 8 a.m. yesterday and until 10 a.m. passengers were disembarking. The vessel was not moving but at anchor.

Sergeant Sharman of the Royal Naval Yard Police prosecuted and both defendants pleaded guilty.

Two Masters of fishing boats pleaded guilty to lying inshore during prohibited hours after dark and were fined $10 each.

New Name For An Old Vessel. The as. Washington (American) which arrived here on Sunday was originally the property of the United States Shipping Board but has changed owners. was formerly the ss. West Cayotte of the West Steamship Company of Portland. She is now operated by the Columbia Pacife Shipping Co.
