JUDGE ON A SYMBOL OF CONSENT.
Whether a father is entitled to
retain an engagement ring present- ed to his daughter before her death or whether he thust return it to her former fiancé, was the point raised at Sheffield County Court.
Mr. Frank Walton, a cutlery field, sued Mr. Thomas William manufacturer of Fulwood, Shel. Elliott, of Fulwood Road, Sheffield, for delivery of the ring, which he alleged was his property, Mr. Elliott claimed the ring as the per sonal representative of his late daughter.
Mr. H. Dixon Clark, for Mr. Wal- ton, said he became engaged in October 1922 to Miss Elliott, He bought a diamond ring for £ro and gave it to Miss Elliott. "I returned to the bank about five minutes past three, and found the door closed. I was surprised as Mr. Abbey had promised to keep open till my friend came.
I tried the door; it sprang open, and I was pulled inside by Sinclair. He was smothered with blood.
"He threatened me that if I
