BARE-KNEED CO-EDS"

"Capital very often is divided and sub-divided among thousands and tens of thousands. The cap- tain of industry comes in, and with his fatelligence directs it to useful and successful production, and who gains but the vast majority of labourers on the one hand and the vast number of those among whom the interest of the capital is divided 1 The leaders of industry are like captains and commanders of armies, and the labourers are the troopers.

"There must be authority to command and discipline to obey on either side as in a military or ganisation if a victory in which both leaders and soldiers are in- terested is to he obtained. Colla-| boration, therefore, between officers and soldiers of industry, between labourers and employers, should be wholehearted and inspired by mutual confidence, and acts and example will always be the best form of propaganda.

HOW THEY PRODUCE ELECTRICITY.

PARIS.

The problem of how torpedo fish manufacture their electricity, which has so often stunned unwary fisher- men, was discussed at length at the Academy of Science in a report by Professors Hugenard and Magnan. These two scientiste made long experiments with torpedo fish in the course of which they discover. ed that the animal when touched produced an instantaneous shock. followed by a secondary shock about 10 seconds later.

Délicate electrical apparatus in an aquarium was used to teet the strength of the shock given by the torpedo fish sid registered as much a 50 volts.**
