LAST LEAGUE MATCHES OF THE SEASON.
MANCHESTER CITY GAIN SECOND DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP.
SUNDERLAND ESCAPE RELEGATION.
The last English League games of the season, which were played on Saturday, were interesting inasmuch as the Second Division championship and relegations hinged on the results. Manchester City and Leeds United were the rivals for the championship and both lost their final matches on foreign soil, but the former guin the premier place with a load of two points. A victory for Leeds United would have given them the championship on a botter goal" average, but toke City beat them by ive goals to one.
Middlesbrough and Sunderland had a relegation "Derby' and the later closed the danger zone. Middlesbrough, who finished top of the Second Division last season and mceived promotion, thus go down again accompanied by the 'Spurs "Manchester City and Leeds United advance to the First Division, while Mill- wall and Bradford displaca Fulham and South Shields in the Second Division: Leeds United were relegated last season and now regain their place. It will be observed that seven teams have 30 points each in the premier League. She held Wednesday who have been at the foot of the table for a long time escaped the relegation gone by defeating Aston Villa and incidentally gained fourteenth position.
A later message from Reuter confirms what has been stated above and reads as follows:-
Everton were presented with the League Cup after the match. Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough will be relegated to the - Second Division and replaced by Manchester City and Leeds who a turn will be replaced in the Second Division by Millwall, Southern champions, and Bradford, Northern champions.
Dean-scored 50 goals for Everton this season beating Camsell's 1397 récord of 60 goals for Middlesbrough.
Fulham will be relegated to the Southern Section and South Shields to the Northern.

Mr. Hirst-Yes, it is in a stone box.
Boxing is a form of entertainment which makes a great appeal to Englishmen, and though I can claim ao deep knowledge of the noble art, the attention of yesterday's audience seemed to indicate that the ring side scenes were the real stuff. The fact that the Albert Hall was the stage and the famous Eugene Carri played refores to the film fight gives it not only reality but a standing in the boxing world.
Considered as a story it is in every way satisfactory. The open- ing scenes of the fair are parti- cularly good and here especially you feel the English, atmosphere- the policeman, the telegraph boy, the publican, the sailor, and all the jostling crowd of men, women and children, " look, and are English Their behaviour is English though perhaps they would seem to ba taking their pleasures sadly to our causins over the water!
The players are not well known but if the British film industry goes on making films as good as
The Ring" they soon will be.
".One Round Jack Sander," the hero who fights his way from the boxing booth of a fair to the Albert Hall where he wins the heavy weight champion- Lillian Hall Davis, who is very like Myrna Kennedy, the heroine of Chaplin's Circus," plays Sander's wife who finds the Beavy-weight Champion Corby (Ian Hunter) to attractive for her husband's peace
Only the fact that the Japaneas who are isolated in two bodies in the east and west of the huge city) dung up sandbag barricades at all their machine guns has enabled them hitherto to repel the infuriat- ed Nationalists with great diff- culty.
But the latest despatches receiv ed in Tokyo are conflicting and are. causing considerable anxiety as to the outcome of the struggle, especi- ally as the ammunition and pro- visions are most sparse and only sufficient for a few days.
In addition, wireless communica tion has been cut off since noon and the Japanese forces are apparently completely isolated.
