The sa. Tui Ming, which left Hong Kong, on December end, was stranded in, the early morning of December 4th, while crossing from the middle of Kaukong towards the island of Hokshan. The steamer was making for the entrance of the western or new channel. -

Soundings taken showed that water forward and aft was 13 feet, but amid- ship, the depth was only 5 feet. The Tai Ming was going at a speed of 8 knots and slid onto a reef, and in doing so! lifted herself about 3 feet,

Two lighters were sent for to lighten the ship which had a full cargo and 250 | ... passengers. H.M.S. Cicala stood by in the deep water.
