Negotiations are proceeding for the loan to the Belgian Exhibition at the Royal Academy in January of the Van Eyck "Altarpiece of the Lamb," from Ghent Cathedral.
This celebrated altar-piece, one of the earliest important works in oil colours, consists of twelve exterior and fourteen interior panels. It has, had a remark able history, culminating in the return from Berlin to Ghent of some of the panels under the Treaty of Versailles.
The altar-piece is the joint work of

Liverpool Cathedral organ, which cost £33,000, is now completed. The dedica- tion of the magnificent instrument will be an event in organ building in this country, for the organ is famous not only as the largest in the world but also as being constructed on the latest and most approved principles, both as regards mechanism and tonalidens: The Liverpool Cathedral organ comprises five manuals and 188 speaking stops. The largest organ in this country up till now had been that in the Royal Albert Hall, erected in 1971, and the largest cathedral organ in St. Paul's Cathedral, rebuilt in 1901.

of Prussia.
During the war the Adam and Eye panels were buried in Brussels Museum. They have now been restored to Ghent, and with the return of the panela, from Germany the whole altar-piece is once more complete as it was when it left the hands of the artists 300 years ago."
The value of the altar-piece is so great that it can scarcely be assessed in terms. of money. It is probably more valuable cven than Raphael's "Sistine Madonna"
LATEST IN OIL TANKERS. LAUNCH OF THE PLUME FOR AUSTRALIAN TRADE
An interesting event took place on the Clyde (Scotland) recently, when a sew tank steamer, which was specially built for the Australasian trade, was launched
This vessel represents the very latest practice in the construction of this class of vessel, and a, notable gathering was present to witness the naming and launching ceremony.
The ship, which was christened Plume, is of steel construction throughout, 480 feet in length, 62 feet 6 inches wide, and 38 feet 6 inches deep.
The total deadweight is 12,300 tons, while the speed will be 11 knots. Oil will be burned under the boilers.
There are nine main cargo tanks, each fitted with special bulkheads.
One of the unique features of the vessel. is its capacity for carrying an un- usually large number of different grades
of oil.
The total carrying capacity is 9,300 English tons, or more than 3,000,000 gallons of oil.
Safety and Comfort. Special provision is made for the safety and comfort of the crew.
Particular care has been given to the fire fighting appliances installed, while the men's quarters have been "fitted up in accordance with the most modern prae- tice.
The vessel is one of the new type of tanker that is being constructed to the order of the Vacuum Oil Company Pty., Ltd., to assist in bringing petroleum pro- ducts in bulk to Britain,
