The Minutes of the last meeting were: approved.
Mak Tung Shi, the owner of the pre- misee claimed that amonat through her Attorney Ip Li Kong (the mortgage).
Mr. M. K. Lo was for plaintiff and Mr. L. D.. Turner for defendant.
By an indenture of mortgage dated": January 19th, 1995, the owner of the pre- mises assigned them to Ip Li Kong by way a mortgage to secure the principal sum of $43,000 and, interest.
In consequence of default made by the owner in payment of interest, Ip Li Kong, as mortgagee, gave notice to the National Optical Co.. informing, them of the default and requesting them to pay rent to him as mortgaged in posses- sion, acting for the mortgagor.
It was in respect of this rent, which had not been paid, that the claim of $1,000 was made.
Defendants' Conisation.
The defendants contention was that they bad for 26 months been paying the owner (mortgagor) $350 a month whereas they had found that the standard rent should have been something like $180, a figure arrived at in; consequence of a dis- traint in 1993 in respect of which rent for two months had been $470.
Mr. Lo. in answer to his Bonour (Mr. Justice Wood) said that he would admit that the defendants had paid rent to the owner in excess of the amount claimed in the writ by his client, If the star- dard rent was 8196 the defendants had

The funeral of the late Miss - Agnes Jean Dulmage, B., the acting. Head- mistress of the Diocesan Girls' School, took place yesterday evening at the Protestant Cemetery, Happy Valley. The Revs. G. R. Lindsay, J. Horace Johnson and G. E. Arrowsmith officiated. In 1875 the work of registration of marriages was given to the depart ment of the Registrar-General which was the title then borne by the office now known as the Secretariat · for Chinese Affain.
