RACING NOTES."

[Br› RAPIER]

Ar a meeting of the Stewards of the Jockey Club held on Wednesday night an exchange of telegrams with. Mr. B D. Beith, was discussed resulting in a pro- posal that he and Mr. F. B. Marshall Lahould be asked to purchase ponies as and where possible in Shanghai and send them down here in time for the sanual race meeting.

These ponies will be classed together and drawn for in the same "manner_aa. subscription griffins and the approximate cost will be $325 each. Members who put down their names for subscription" griffins will be circularised to see if they wish to participate in this scheme. Of course, it is impossible to say how many popies will be oblaïnsible-if the scheme goes through The present depressed state of Shanghai may help Messrs. Beith & Marshal in their search for ponies and I feel sure that their services in this connection will be much appreciated by the local racing community,
