Pleasing Scans.
The scene at the grounds was strikingly pleasant. A row ai tennis courta extend- ing the whole length of the ground, with the pick of local exponents engaged i theroin, gave the impression of some im- portant tournament and on these courts, six in number, the first and second division matches were played, while „three others...on the other halt of the ground separated by the familiar blue screens, were for the third division. Tho baad stand occupied the space next to these last courts; and to the north side | of it, a refreshment-stall was temporarily converted into an oasis" to which the players sojourned at intervals.
Tea was served throughout the "After- noon in the shady part of the ground on the west side of the band stand." "Tug! pavilion was tastefully, decorated with bunting and was very popular all after-
Roon..
The weather on Saturday, was ideal for such an occasion especially to the tennis players. The Exhibition Matches wero much admired and ended in triumphs for: the Chinese. The results will be round below.
"
Welcoms Expressed.
At the conclusion of the matches, Mr. Ng Ste Kwong, the well-known tennis
champion and President of the Club, in very ablo speech welcomed Lady
感
Clementi and His Excellency, and the other visitors, on behalf of the Club. He said that they were seldom honoured by such distinguished visitors and their welcome was all the greater because of the fact that His Excellency is a brilliant scholar. (Applause.) He then dwelt on the Club's sporting activities azik, “com-1, menting upon their good fortune in win- ning. the three Divisions in the Tenais League, remarked that "It was not the winning or losing of the matches so much, but the spirit in which the games were played." He thanked the donors of the prizes and Mr. Mok Kon Sang for. bearing the expenses of the refreshments.

Unprecedented Record,
Mr. Hancock said it was his privilege, President of the Hongkong Lawn Tennis Association, to congratulate the Chinese Recreation Club an winning not only one division but the three divisions of the Tennis League. It was a record unprecedented in the history of the League, and he thought it was one of which C.R.C. could justifiably be-proud. During the past year the League had the most successful season. Seven tepa entered the "A" Division, and 11 såd s respectively in the "B" and "C" Biyi sions, making 24 teams in all. He would like to see the Y.M.C.A. enter. In the early days of the Leagus they competed and constituted a tower of strength. He expressed the hope that the League would continue to be successful and concluded by thanking the Chinese Recreation Club, on behalf of the visitors for their, bos pitality.
Lady Clementi then, most charmingly, gave away the prizes.
Bolshevik Picture.
H.B. the Governor mid his wife wished him to thank the Commitice and mem bers of the Chinese Recreation Club for their kind welcome. He also thanked them on his own behalf. It was a great relief, His Excellency continued, for him to be there in the midst of sunshine and fresh air after being free, from duties which are arduous and sometimes re- pugnant. From "Bolshevik ident Hong kong had, of late, been painted as a barren island with Imperialists thirsting for the enslavement of the Chinese, but they were fortunate in being able to aga at the C.R.C. that afternoon à scede which was quite the contrary. He fel sure that in the Colony all classes of the Community combined to keep law and order and co-operate in goodwill. He congratulated the Chinese Recreation Club on their success, which he hoped would continue in the future.
Cheers for His Excellency and Lady' Clementi; the visitors and the Chinese Recreation Club concluded a very plea sant occasion.
