"In evening dresses the long sleeve is prevalent. There is a certain simplicity in these gowns of exquisite material, georgette, crêpe de Chine, beautiful taffeta and printed crepe de Chine.

Colour effects seem to make up for the absence of the trimming. The neckline is still very low, skirts are getting alightly longer-not much though-and the waist line is gradually creeping higher.
Those who dread the high waistline, however, need not become worried over the fashion trend. It is only worn with very unusual gowns" and is will take. a long long time before the slim sil honette, becomes a back number. Sports-Dresses,

Bathing Season.
Hongkong is not like the Lido and other fashionable bathing resorts on the Talan and French coasts and we do not trouble over much about the fashionable cut of our bathing suits. For those who would like a pretty bathing suit, however, there is sketch of one on this page which may be made effectively of taffeta of different colours. The flowers should be cut of the same material and sewn on. The sandals may be fastened with ribbons of the same colour as the bathing suit. The whole makes a pretty en- semble. Taffeta is lovely for bathing, more agreeable than the woollen suits and, more fashionable than the cotton ones. They also wear well, provided the material is good.
For those who want stockings of an excellent quality in any shade and at a very low price. I would recommend a visit to the Pandora store, which has just received a big consignment from Shang- hai. The Sign of the Lantern" has some beautiful rose-coloured French glass which might serve useful as well as decorative purposes.

Remove this outer skin which has served its turn by applications of mercalized wax. This fragrant compound contains wonderful absorptive properties which clean the complexion while you sleep. I have enquired at "The Pharmacy whether mercalized wax is obtainable here and I found that there is a large quantity of it in stock.

HOUSEHOLD HINTS. Washing the Eyes.
•
Of course, we all wash our eyes when we wash our faces, but to be quite safe eyes should be washed separately. Most babies bave their eyes washed until they are out of the care of the nurse. Then auch washing is discontinued.
It would be well if it was keps up. A few years ago when I spent,, some months with a well-known, American horsewoman, and we had to ride from 15 to 20 miles almost every day through a very sandy country she called my atten tion to the bathing of my eyes as soon as we came home from our rides. I felt Quite fre- the beneficial effect of it. quently in spite of wearing sun-glasses the dust accumulated in our eyes.
Recently in Hongkong a friend of mine suffered from an inflamed eye and on con- sulting a physician he told her thas dast had formed a lump underneath the eye, lid He advised, frequent bathing and under this treatment the inflamation of the eyelid gradually disappeared.
The only thing required are one or two eye-cups which are obtainable for a few cents at every chemist's. To the water a few drops of Borac acid should be added For children two eye-cups are to be recommended because one can teach them how to apply them themselves and then they can lie down with the eye-caps and rest not only their eyes but also their bodies.
Ice and Iced Drinks.
ין
The hotter the weather the more we long for ice-cream and iced drinks. But in these days, especially with the rumours of cholera, it is much better to put the drinks of ice than to put the ice in the. drinks. For children it is very advisable. nsics may not be entirely free from

COOKING RECIPE.
Iced Orange Oustard.
Grate the rind from two oranges and blend the grated rind with two table. spoonfuls of sugar. Then make a custard with one pint of milk, two eggs and the favoured sugar and let it cool. Add the strained juice of one of the oranges Peel the remaining orange, removing all the white and the pips and cut the juicy pulp into fine bits. Sprinkle these with sugar and a tablespoonful of sherry and let them stand for a short while.
Meanwhile add hall pint of cream," well whipped, to the custard and put it into the ice box When very cold add the pieces of orange and a tablespoonful of macarton crumbs. Leave the mixture in the ice box until wanted. It is a delight ful dish for hot weather.

LONDON,
ELIZABETH ARDEN, whose smert Salons are frequented by the most beautiful women of the fashionable world, sends these wise suggestions to all women:
!
Don't mistakes the cultivation of 1 velinasa fur" make-up. They are miles apart! It is wisdem, of course, to make súḥtis use of fine voiles accessories to enhance and soceat the features and the natural colouring. But it is trgie to try to hide blemishes with cosmetics, for each year you will grow more dependent on these artificial means of concealing the ravages of your unwisdam.
Learn to care for your skin scientifically, to keep it young and naturally lovely. Quicken the simulation that carries off poisons and brings fresh colour to the cheek. Nourish the tissues to keep them firm and round. Drive away all signs of age by holding the keen contour and the radiant sparkle of youth. You can!
