'DEFENDANTS SENT FOR TRIAL ON | CONSPIRACY CHARGES.
DEFENCE RESERVED. FOR SUPREME COURT... The hearing concluded at the Central Magistracy yesterday afternoon of the Wing On case in which three Chinese defendants (the second of whom, Fok Chuen Yuen, formerly sub-manager of the Man Fat firm, disappeared whilst on bail) are charged with conspiracy and attempting to defraud the Wing On Co., Ltd., Des Vaux Road, of $50,000 and 8633 interest.
Through Mr. G. K. Hall Brutton (who is for the defence of the third defendant) being unwell, and unable to attend Court, it was intimated that the defence of both defendants would be reserved, for the Supreme Court and Mr. R. E. Lindsall committed both men for trial at the April Criminal Sessions.

In the meanwhile the printer, Pottinger Street, who has for many years been responsible for the printing of the deposit books of the Wing On Company, and has been in the witness box on several occasions, was recalled for fur-Orientale ther cross-examination.
He was cross-examined by Mr. Leo d'Almada (for the defence of the first defendant), and said the blocks were used for printing the stars on the labels of the deposit books. It was possible that one block only contained 26 stars while other might contain 2 stars.
Mr. F. C. Jenkin (for the prosecution) said that it was not the case for the prosecution that the label was a forgery merely because it had se stars.
At this point the case was adjourned antil the afternoon,
DEFENDANT'S DENIAL..
When the hearing was resumed in the afternoon Mr. Strellett said: We under. stand the prosecution has concluded its caac, and your Worship has considered the question of committing, the defend. ants for trial. On behalf of the third defendant I have been asked to say that he has made a general denial of the charge against him. Particularly he denies that he took any part in the con- spiracy, or that he had anything to do with the work of printing the forged sheet, or had anything to do with the original jurisdiction action of 1927, He denies in toto the evidence given by two certain witnesses (the names were mentioned by Mr. Strellets) and he asks me to state that he is able to produce evidence which he considers will prove to the satisfaction of any jury that the story told by these two witnesses is ab solutely false.
Mr. Lindsell replied that for the moment he was only concerned with whether the prosecution had made out a. case which would have to be answered before a jury. If evidence for the de fence was not going to be called in that Court, it would not be necessary to state what the defendante said.
Mr. Strøllett asked His Worship to accept it as a general denial and to put it on record as such,
Mr. Lindsell remarked that when the defence was reserved, it was not usual to
hear any evidence from the defendant.
