COMPAGNIE DES MESSAGERIES MARITIMES.

QUE, ANTWERP, LONDON, &*...

Capt. D. H. Marin (Kuriyang) said that he was aware that there was a reef in that locality that had once been re- corded bnt had since been expunged.

Capt. McKenzie, recalled, id he had not previously heard of such a reef until informed by Capt. Marin.

The President of the Court remarkedi evidently this reef-has formed again.' After an hour's retirement the finding of the Court in the case of the 8.8. Hunan grounding, was correct, and that no care- was that the navigation, prior to the Erst lessness or neglect had been displayed. Positions, given in evidence, were cor rect, and an apparently safe course was steered. The Court was of the opinion that the second grounding was caused through the ship refusing to answer her helm when under steerage way. Capt. McKenzie wan exempt from all blame, and, after each grounding, he did all in bis power to get his ship off.

1.1

In the case of the weiyong the Court found the grounding of that boat was unused by the tow shackle with the 3.5. unan parting, and leaving the boat in unmanageable state in dangerous waters. They considered she grounded before Captain Martin could get her clear. Capt. Martin was exempt from all blame and he was fully justified in going to the assistance of the st. Hunan. Considering all circumstances, the Court thought he did everything possible for the safety of his ship.

The fading concluded with a general warning to shipping, cautioning them to give the uncharted patch a dear berth.
