LAI WAH CUP FINAL. The team selected to represent the Royal Navy in the final of the Lai Wah Cup competition to-morrow against the Civilians is as follows:-

LOCAL FLYING.

PROSPECTS OF HONGKONGAS AN AIRPORT.

Now that Mr Hotling has been flying in Hongkong "for" over a week, it is of interest to record a few impressions that have been formed for the conditions and future prospects of fying in this locality.

The first fact that stands out is that any service that uses Hongkong as a port of call must either use sea-planes or must at least have floats fitted, to allow land- ing to be made on the water. Even with a small Caudron bi-plane such as used on this occasion--which is able to take off and land in a smaller space than most -there is none too large a space' on the Kal Tack reclamation, and in years to come it is to be presumed that this space will be built over."

As regards the air conditions, Mr. Hetling's experience is rather different to what the public has been led to sup- pose. Contrary to the general idea, Mr. Fetling states that he finds very little difference between flying here and flying in the tropical conditions of the Straits and Java. Furthermore, Mr. Hetling states that the configuration of the land makes no appreciable difference at all to the air conditions over Hongkong and the harbour.* **

To turn now to the Company's plans as far as they have been sketched out

The Manager states that he has every hopes of his Company farming an Aerial Service for the transportation of mails and passengers whose terminus will be at Singapore. The intention is, starting from Singapore, to fly to Batavia, Soura baya, Macassar, then to Hongkong and Shanghai with a northern terminus some where in Japan, subject to the authorities there giving the necessary permission. For the time being Manila does not come into the scheme, but may possibly included later on

The general conclusions formed as result of the fights made in Hongkong are that, so far as prezent experience goes, there are good prospects of success for a properly organised and equipped Aerial Transport Company dealing with mails and passengers.

L. Ses. Moodio (Hermen): L Staar. Hetling will make his last fight with It should be noted by the public that Grindell (S/M. 13) and LS. A. Wright
