In a statement issued to the people of Ireland last month, after the settlement of the boundary dispute, President Cos-- grave says:

believe that this Agreement, signed in the spirit of goodwill which prevailed among all the parties, lays the foundation of a new era in Irish history, an era i which North and South will make a united effort for the betterment and deve- lopment of the country as a whole. I do not say that age-long problems have sud- denly been solved, "but I am confident that the way has been opened for their solution. COPY OF SPEAKER'S CHAIR. GIFT OF EMPIRE. PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION TO AUSTRALIA.

The United Kingdom branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association is sub- acribing towards the cost of the Speaker's Chair to be presented to the Australian Commonwealth House of Representatives for Parliament House, Canberra, which will be opened in the middle of next year. The Chair is an exact replica of the Speaker's Chair in the House of Com- mons, and of the Chair presented to Canada in 1021.

The Royal Arms over the Chair will be earved from the timber from the original roof of Westminster Hall, and the arm rests are being made of timber from the warship Fictory,

The Chair cost about £500 and will be completed in June in order to be present- ed during the meeting of the Association in Australia in September.

The meeting will be attended by sixteen delegates from the United Kingdom, eight from Canada, eight from South Africa, four from New Zealand and two from Newfoundland.

The United Kingdom delegation is ex- pected to include Mr. Antory and Mr. J. H. Thomas.
