I mention all these conceivable con. siderations arising out of the one stroke, because they are incessantly recurring and incessantly opening up a variation of the saine problep. That is why I wenture to direct the attention of the young players especially to the care and precision which Mr. Lenglen devotes to each particular stroke.
There is no wild hitting, no "slap.. dash attempt to win a miraculous point with a wild "awipe" and a futile hope that it will prove a winner.
Control means.restraint and intellig- ncr qualities which must be exercised if one is to be a "world' beater."
I have had the pleasure of appearing on the court 'with Mlle. Suzanne on many occasions, and many victories have we shared. This has aforded me the ex- cellent opportunity of observing her play int close quarters.

CONTRAST TO TILDEN.
To those who watch her game closely,
it will be seen that she never by any chancy indulges in freak shots. In this respect the affords a most amazing cor trast to Mr. Tilden, who appears to have mastered almost every shot known to tennis. With the exception of what may be termed the." ribbed" service, Mlle. Suzante plays all her shots with. a full- faced racket, both forehand and back- hand.
This, no doubt, is largely responsible for the unvarying accuracy of her play. Add to this the punctilious care she dis plays in watching the ball from the ground to the racket, and another im portant contributory factor is revented.
Although her lootwork is invariably perfect, there are times when, without having to do it, she plays her forehand drive from of the wrong foot, a stance that would be fatal to many players But Mile Lenglen might have learned boxing under a perfect coach, so well does she keep her feet under her and preserve always a perfect poise and balance.

Upon two occasions when she and I had won the mixed doubles in the South of France, we afterwards played exhibition matches against the winners of the men's doubles, and won with ease.
