PSYCHOLOGY OF CAPITALISM. LECTURE BY PROFESSOR SMITH AT THE UNIVERSITY,

The fourth of the series of Public Ex- tension Lectures,

given at WIN

the University yesterday evening by Professor . W. N. Smith (Professor of Education at Hongkong University) when he dealt with the Psychology of Capitalisan.

The lecturer said that capital was the power of a man or a group of men over the inhour of other men. If a man used 20,000 in a scheme it would be £20,000 worth of plant, wages, and the power of paluation. Dealing with the paychology of the capitalist. the lecturer delineated the characteristics of a child which largely develop into similar characteristics, though much stronger, when the child becomes # man. One type of capitalist was a mug who always thought he could unage everybody else's business bette than he could maunge his ore. There was another type of

capitalist who, bun for power, sought it as Shakes

Iago did, hat fortunately the were very scarce.

Tagos of the world Capitalisin was the amount of power exer- cised over the work of ather people. The lecturer believed that were capital to cease, so would civilized society also rease.
