Dr. Hubert Roberts, senior obstetric surgeon at Queen Charlotte's Hospital, said that, as it was a very difficult and dangerous case, the patient was sufering from acute shock, and nothing more could be done than to leave her quietly at rest
in bed.
Replying to Mr. Roome, Dr. Roberts said, that in his 5 years' experience, about 60,000 cases had come under his supervision. He agreed that in all those cases there bad not been one similar to that of Mrs. Harding's. He thought it would have been advisable for Dr. Bate man to have consulted a colleague.

UNCONSCIOUS OF NEGLECT.
Sir Edward Marshall Hall, K.C., (de" fending) Are you conscious, of any neglect in this case?
Dr. Bateman: No: I did my duty thoroughly My conscience is quite clear I did my utmost to save her life.
Mr. Roomne: You were shocked when you found what had happened 7-Yes.
Had she died, would you have simply given a death certificate -I think so.
And nobody would have heard of the matter-Probably not
That is what you wanted, I suggeen That is not a fair question. I did not want anything bid.
After an absence of an hour and a quarter the jury, found the defendant guilty.

SIR B. BRUCE-PORTER'S
.. DENUNCIATION.
"BOYISH
FIGURES UNNATURAL-
The tight-fitting rubber belts which young women are wearing round the hips to secure a slim figure were de nounced as lamnable" by Sir Bruce Bruce Porter in an address at the. City of London Y.31.C.A.. Aldersgate-street, E.C.,
Fashion, he said. recently. bad conferred a great boon on" young girls in doing away with the tight Vic torian corset. but the tight rubber belts they
wearing ut the present time were likely to produce far more serious effects. It is uncatural for wo men to have a figure which is described" as boylish, be said. To get that figure a belt has been put on the market which can only be called, damnable, I warn parents not to let their young daughters wear them.

"When growing from girlhood to wo manhood girls begin to get a widening. of the hips, which is natural and proper It is essential for happy motherhood that such growth should not be restrict ed. These appalling beits prevent the growth of
importens muscles and are be coming a national danger and a danger to the mothers of the future,"
Nothing is more certain than that, nature will punish those who misuse their bodies. The girls of to-day pride themselves on getting rid of their mo thers' Victorias eoreets. They must be ware less they get into the worze bond- age of the infernal band called the rub- ber corset."

MIOTAGES TO THE EMPIRE.
LONDON, Tuesday Night. Mr. Stanley Little, vice-president of the British Empire Union and a well- known writer on Imperial politics, lectur- ing at the Horal Colonial Institute, said: All is not well with the Empire. Its magnificent structure is menaced by pestiferous pedants, parboiled pedago guos, parochial particulariste, pedestrian philosophers sind parasitic paynims!
If half a century ago we had taken the right road, the Dominion
populations would now have been doubled or teebled. and the volume of inter-Imperial trade would have quadrupled, thus banishing unemployment and the Communist man- noe. The Empire's existence is in the balance, and we must be up and doing."
It is published at the Office of the "Hose KONG DinY PRIJA."
