A per cent. dividend was declared, which would al- sorb 20,583.81, the remainder to be put Into General Reserve and carried forward to next year. After the election of Directors and Auditors for next year, the meeting was adjourned.

£1,072,997, The Directors propose:- PC dividend on the preferred stock (of which p.c. paid as int. div., 12 p.g. dividend on the deferred stock, free of income tax (of which 8 p.c. paid as int. div), reserve for redemption debenture stock, 150; write of discount on de- beutune issue, £139,711; forward to next; year, $101.03.

sons to St it for office use as required.
The demolition of the old buildings opposite our offices in Leaden- hall Street and the construction of up to-date premises for Lloyd's and other shipping companies, bringing the centre of the shipping world to our neighbour. hend, should not detract from the value of our City property.
The old Agency House, at Hoogkong. situated it Des Tax Road. has herri advantageously sold, as it is not now re- quired, cur new office building facing the harbour being ready for occupation. The new building is of seven stories, admir- ably adapted for commercial purposes. The difference realised by the sale of the old building and the amount at which it stood in the books has been applied to a reductios of the book value of the other properties
War Memorial-Altogether 235 mem bers of the sea and land staff of the P. & O. Company gave their lives during the Great War, and as a permanent re cord a memorial in bronze has been in- stalled in the office, outside the Board Room, and was unveiled by the chairman in July last
General Trade, conditions in all the company's spheres of operation have been very difficult during the last twelve. months. Labour conditions have not im- proved. Indications of a year ago of a slight improvement in outward trade have not materialised, and latterly the war in China has affected both outward and homeward business, with the Far East." Passenger business continues satisfactory. The Mail Service has been carried on during the past year, under some difficulty owing to the loss by enemy, action of many of our fino ships; but next year there is every prospect of & reversion to the full pre-war schedule on all lines. The directors'feel compelled to state that but for the conservative policy adopted in the past, it would not have been possible to propose the dividend paid last year, and which they now sug gest for the year ended September 30th,
1994.

The last of the huge surplus war stocks of textiles, says a Glasgow message in the Daily Telegraph of November 17th, has been disposed of by largo shipments overwas. The complete clearance of these stocks which have so long hung: over the home markets, is expected to bring out large and valuable orders to home mills long held in abeyance. point of fact, a boom is now confidently anticipated in home textile centres Amongst the recent disposals wero 15,000,000 yards of flannel, 5,000,000 yards of suit lininga, 4,000,000 yards of serges and tweeds, 1,500,000 yards of light canvas cloths, and tens of thou sands of men's suitings.
