HONGKONG SHARE MARKET.
Messrs Benjamin and Potts, in their weekly share report dated Friday, Nov. 7th, say :--
Since our last report, the market took a sudden downward turn, and many of the stocks, which were being most freely dealt in, show a considerable deprecia- tion on the previous week's prices. A good demand, however, exista far Cotton shares, and Ewo fills in particular show a good advance.
Business in Shanghai has been dis- located by the Autume Races.
According to telegraphic advices from the Stenita, the Rubber market is strudy. and there have been very few ductuations in the quotations given below.
Banks-There has been a good demand for Hongkong and Shanghai Banks and sales have been made up to $1,172). · The price in London, has advanced to £138.10.0 (middle).
Marine and Fire Insurances.-Unions have further strengthened and have been placed at the close at $255. "Cantons have' advanced to $740 and Hongkong Firea at #613, China Fires are wanted at $180 and Yangtazes ent $31. Underwriters have eased to 811.
Shipping-Hoogkong, Canton & Macao Steamboats were done at $87 at the out- set, but have since lapsed to a nominal | quotation of $36, "Star" Ferries have. changed hands at $104 and continue in request. Deferred Indos have come to business at 2111. Union Waterboats are a shade firmer at $171. Douglas Steam- ships are on offer at 800,"
Refineries. China Sugars have weak- ened and are on offer at $95 on the new basis. Malabons are enquired for at 1.
Oils and Mining. Shell" Transporta IN after anies to London at 54 have ad vanced to a buying rate there of 86/3d. Tronohs have hardened and have been booked at 50 London advises that the price of Tin after having moved up to £259.7.& receded to £256.5.0, but the mar ket has since recovered to £57.17.6 clos- ing with a strong undertone. Electric Companies.-Hongkong Trams have weakened and have been sold down to 15. Hongkong Electrics are also easier and have been negotiated at 843/43). China Lights (combined) have fallen away to $16.
Docks, Wharves and Godowns.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks have been ruling weak and business has been done down to 8151, the market closing with buyers at $155. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves have likewise developed a week. tendency and were sold down to $209. Shanghai Docks have remained steady at Tia 08 Hongkew" Wharves are in de-
mand at Tia 186, and New Engineerings
at Tls. 6.60.
Lands, Hotels and Buildings-Hong kong Lands after sagging to 3108. have recovered to $110. Hongkong and Shang- hai Hotels (old) have been dealt in atl $212, while the new shares are wanted at $19 There are buyers of Humphreys Estates at $23, Realty's at 82.95 and Prince's Buildings at $150.
