NOT ABOVE THE KNEE.

A Woman correspondent writes in a London paper as follows:-

¡

The skirt problem has reached the

acuté stage once more.

Fashion, it is said, has decreed that skirts must be shorter-and provokingly leaves it at that.

It is stated that some Paris models have interpreted this instruction as satus tioning skirts that finish their career above the knee. But while some people may wear above-knee-length skirts in Paris, they are hardly likely to be seen in London, except, perhaps, on the ather.

ני

NO TRAINS FOR EVENING.

Mr. Larvien Lelong, the well-known Parisian stage dress designer, who is visiting London in conection with the gowns he is designing for "Charlot's Revue," discussed the matter.

Truly skirts will he shurter," he said, very short, thirty centimetres (about 112 inches) er so above the ground, hat longer in the evening.

No trains for the evening. though. Perhaps here and there you act one on In particularly splendid evening gown, but dresses are so simple that trains cannot be added with advantage.)

"Thirty centimetres off the ground." would seem effectually to dispose of any thing like kare-length frocks

VARYING THE FIGURE.

AL. Lelong revealed other dress secrets. He spoke of what might be described as thigh waists, illustrating afresh the ense with which women can vary their figure." No pleating this season," he said, "A few gathers, perhaps a godet or two. People who want a slight fullness in dress will have to get it by one or other of these two devices.

"Lame for the evening, kasha for sport, georgette and chiffon trimmed with fur for afternoon gowns, Thus briefly he stunned up the materials for the new season.

Many sequins will be used 'on crening gowns, but madame will be more or less soberly, attired in shades of brown and beige by day, discnril belts altogether for sports purposes, and affect tunic gowns and three-quarter coats.

A WONDERFUL WHITE ..

QULEN'S THEATRE.

It is difficult, after seeing "Love is un Awful Thung ? the comedy now showing at the Queen's Theatre to know whether the acting, the direction, or the story selt should receive first mention. ous is the one word that fittingly des cribes the picture. Ashes of Yen gence. The action is a 16th century one, and there is faithfully shown the plendour and the squalor of that time together with all the incidents of period when religious-political jealousy MrC. E. Halewood WES dominating factor. Those were the days when nobles lived in huge castle

HF. W. Howard surrounded with Vast retinue, and when men were as factidious in their dress as were the women. They loved anith they hated fiercely in those days, and used methods of compulsion that shock the mind to-day. The opportunities, afforded an artistic producer are many, but it has to he said that the story has not been subordinated to wonderful scenes, but moves only an orderly and sensible manner to its ending. The music, an is usual, is in keeping with the picture, and beatifully rendered.
