If it is right that alcoholic hould be restricted, and heavily taxed, and I suggest nothing to the cou- trary, it agremely illogical and unjust that the present day orgies of the equally "taxic, tea red sugar should be officially encouraged. Considerations of the public health would suggest that the duties on these ammolities should be raised, not lowerd.
FLYING TO PARIS AFTER DINNER.
PLANS FOR NEW BRITISH SERVICE
As soon us further tests. have been made and night dying aeroplanes built. Imperial Airways, Limited, the How $1,000,000 national air transport com- pany, hopes to establish ng after dinner express at 100 miles an hour between Loudon and Paris. This will enable busi. ness men to dine after a day's work in London and get in Paris at bed-time.
A service of big aerial wagons-life with comfortable sleeping berths, rushing through the night from London to dis- tant European capitals, is another of the company's plans Regular. night flying and the institution of lung routes are re- cognised now as the chief methods by which airways may be established on a really commercial footing.
The Air Ministry has just received ten- ders from British aircraft constructors for the immediate building of the first- Empire transport planes. These ma- chines, which will be handed over to Im- perial Airnay's Limited, for commercial operation, will be able to fly from London to Australia, by way of "Egypt, India, and Singapore, with nine stops.
"MUSICAL TOSH" AT THE THEATRES.
SONOS THAT MAY BECOME CLASSICS
Mr. Appleby Matthews; the musical director of The Immortal Tour" at the Regent Theatre, and conductor of the Birmingham City Orchestra," who raised a storm by declaring that modern theatre music is disgusting tosh," refuses to retruct.
"I fail to understani," be said in an interview, why my remarks should have aroused such resentment among London musicians. They know as well as I do that theatre music, though it may be seriously written, is not taken seriously. The average theatre-goer does not treat the overture even as a pleasing part of the entertainment, and the beating of a tom-tom during the time people were getting into their sents would serve exactly the game purpose. This being so, it is not to be wondered at that the commercial theatre manager does not go. out of his way to provide good music. And the result is the tosh which we hear in the great majority of theatres?
"The thing that is the matter" with modern music," proceded by Nr. Matthews, is the feeling of snobbery' with which it is approached by audiencon The halo with which the classical com- poser is surrounded seems to have a blighting effect upon the modern audience. They treat classical music an if it was a world apart, ignoring the fact that much modern music will, in its turn, hecome classical, And I should not won- der if the music now considered beneath contempt one or two of the music-hall songs, for instance-were not elevated to classical
Even the masters wrote rubbish, and there are very few people who call themselves musical whe are capable of distinguishing between the rubbish and the divine work of the masters."

The Day of the Knight is Here !
IT IS THE
WILLYS-KNIGHT
Simplest and most trouble-free type of motor ever invented,"
It has the most distnctive and gracefully balanced body of any car
in the market.
1-The Willys-Knight car is the four cylinder motored car that makes the six
unnecessary.
The Kaight motor is steam principle. The valves are two cylindrical sleeves with restoagular slots or ports which when they register with each other and the parts in the block allow the ingress and egress of the gases without obstruction. These wide open passages, particularly on the exhaust side, permit a mere thereagh cleaning of the burat gases from the combustion chamber than any other type of tetor, so that every race of energy available in utilized from the explosive mixture, which gives na such tremendons power
2-It has no valve to grind and no carbon to clean.
The combustion chamber is completely surrounded by water and an alley piston xabed for its groat hea radiating qualities is nasd so neither the combustion chamber nor the head of the pisten eta het sangh to bake the readme from the exposed gases to form carton while there is still enough hest maintained to handle the explosive mixture effectively.
-It is the only type of motor that improves with use.
While carbon can not form in the combustion chamber, still a certain amount of the reniâxa from the barnt gases works up behind the wide sealing ring in the cylinder head and, as this building in rocas obtaine, it keeps pushing this waling ring more tightly against the inner sleeve until it completely seats the sexpression chamber developing more power with every mile the motor is drawn.
"
-It is the only type of motor that wears in while other wears out
All parts in the Willys-Knight car are sembled with wide clearance between sack other and oil is forced into these clearancea under heavy prurare so that the entire assembly is lapping or wasring is on these heavy films of oil instead of wearing out. In other words, every bearing in this motor is an oil hearing instead of a metal to inetal baring, which is nocemary in the construction of a poppet valve motor in order to keep it quiet with subsequent quick.
wearand soins.
1t kan eliminated one hundred and anty two quick wearing paris necessary in the ageration of a cylindared poppet valve motor.. There are no hammering parts, sach, no cams striking against paak, rods, push rods against valve atoms, or valve honda auapping back into their seats through the medium of heavy springs, etc.
