This is the decision of a Marine Court held at Fremantle, Western Australia, which has delivered judgment with refer- ence to the outbreak.
*
The Court found that the fire originat ed in No. 3 hold of the vessel when sho was lying at Victoria Quay. The out break was caused unintentionally by an unknown man who carelessly used a light- ed match, which ignited some inflammable material in the hold. This man, who could not be identified, was working cargo in the bald with other men about the time the outbreak occurred.
The total estimated damage caused to. the vessel was approximately £5,000, and to the cargo, approximately, between 270,000 and 280,000.
The Court thought there should be stricter supervision during the time of working of cargo in vessels for the pur pose of preventing such an occurrence as happened in that instance in regard to sucking and the using of naked lights or anything in the nature of fire in the boli..
