MR. BALDWIN ON THE NUVIET.
In the House of Commons on February 13th. Mr. Baldwin criticised the Govera ment's policy regarding Russia and issued a grave warning as to the difficulties which lay in the path of arriving at a settlement of all cutstanding problems. In Russia wo had to face very serious and profound difficulty, because we had to try to establish peaceful relations with Government whose ideals wore entirely opposed to cur own, and we had to try to bring about peaceful relations with a Government which would not use the words in the same squse in wich wo used them He recalled that the Prime The Labour Party Minister bad said: will stand te nonsense and monkey tricks from the Russian diplomatie, representa

TRAINING A BRITISH TRAIN
DRIVER:
MISTAKES THAT RESULT IN DEATH.
Ji
The man on the footboard, the man who' drives you to your destiuntion, and of whom you give no thought as you unfold your paper and settle down in comfort in the main behind him, is one of the most thoroughly bious to become drivers of public servants.
Young men
enter the companies service when about eighteen years of ag. They have then to undergo several overe testa, first na to character, then as to physique Train driving requires many qualities of brain and hand; it requires' quickness, nerve, cool judgment, and the instinct for speed | judgment.
First, the aspirant stands in as greaser and cleaner. This period makes
him familiar with every working part of the great locomotives he will one day drive. From the yards he is promoted to the footboard is spare fireman, when he will learn even more if he keep his eyes open. Even in the staking of an engine's farnag there is much to be learnt if stean is w be maintained at its required, level.
At length be will be given an engine, but not a passenger train engine. That cotnes much later. He will start his career proper as driver on the footboard of some goods train. Should he show himself a careful and intelligent man; und, above all, absolutely mixt and" per-
fectly sound physically, he will be trans Eured to the passenger service, and in due course will rise to the proud' position" of the footboard of an express train.

HOW TO GET GOOD SERVICE FROM
MICHELIN TYRES.
tell
'Keep tyres pumped up to correct pressure for the load they have to carry. We can
what this should be.
you
When tyres are under inflated there is continual internal friction between the foundation cord and the rubber, causing overheating of the tyre and consequent rapid deterioration.
Water can also enter causing rust, resulting eventually in the rims having sharp edges which cut the walls of the tyre near the head
Most cars in Hongkong run on under inflated tyres with the above disastrous results. Have your wheels examined front and rear for trueness and tracking alignment. If they are at fault in this respect the tread of the cover is subject to a grinding action which quickly destroys the cover.
Keep tyres free from oil and grease.
Start and stop gently and take corners slowly.
Lastly buy MICHELIN tyres from us and follow the above advice and
tyre satisfaction is assured.
