INTERPORT FOOTBALL. Reporting the deciding game by which Shanghai secured the Hongkong Telegraph Interport Cup, the NC. Hady News says:-
On Saturday afternoon (Febrifhry Uth), at the Police ground, the Hongkong Interport Association football players paid the penalty of the mistake they made in the opening match on Tuesday last. when, with the game well and deservedly won, they allowed Shanghai to break through and score in the last minute of play.
Saturday's game probably will go down in football history as one of the hardest and most interesting matches ever played" in Shanghai, for there was not a minute's slackening off during the whole of the The combined effects of the thrre play. Interport games that already had been played on the ground during the week, and the rain that so consistently had been falling, resulted in the ground being little less than a quagmire when the teams. lined up. One well-known footballer wha has played in Shanghai for many years. stated on Saturday that during Treent years no football match in Shanghai bad been played on so heavy and muddy a ground.
Although it is impossible to
get accurate figures, it is probable that the attendance at Saturday's game created a record for Shanghai. It was estimated that at last Tuesday's game there were 3,500 people present; and on Saturday thers must have been 300 or 400 more
