THE INTERPORT FOOTBALL AT
SHANGHAL
HONGKONG'S FINE PLAN,
AN EXCITING FINISH.
The Interport Association Football match at Shanghai is described at length in the Shanghai papers of the 8th inst.. The following extract is made from the N.-C. Daily News report:
Hongkong'a third goal came from a crimmage following a corner, the ball going to Nash, who was lying unmarked. He hos hard and low and Remedios had no chance. Johannson was limping and Witchi came to the inside berth, while Quayle, no doubt in search of goals, join- ed the forwards, Falconer going to left back. A tree-kick against the Hongkong goalie for over-carrying way unproduc- tive. and the game appeared to be over, with Hongkong justly the winners, when unexported happened. Forty-five seconds from the cad Quayle passed to Goldman, who sent the ball, on its way in the direction of Witschi. That player, on the run, sent in a shot that Weness was able to touch but not divert, and the game ended,

On the general run of the play, Hong. kong deserved to win. They were tho better leam-better balanced, quicker on the ball, showed infinitely better com- bination, passed more accurately, kicked more surely and cleanly, kept their posi- tions better, an adapted themselves to the slippery surface as though they had never played on anything but mud. Their goalie, for what little he had ta do, was per szeellones, and so were their backs, who made not one real miskick throughout the game. Their halves were a rare trio of despoilers who never tired and who never were out of position. They plied their forwards judiciously and cavered their backs faithfully, and in every respect constituted an excellent de- partment of an excellent aggregation. All of the Hongkong forwards played a great game. They played the individual game

"Onlooker" in a review of the game writes in our Shanghai contemporary:
If ever a team deserved to lose on the day's play, it was Shanghai Not that Shanghai played such bad football, but, under the prevailing conditions, Hong kong played the better. They adapted the brasy ground far themselves to quicker than the Shanghai team and were undoubtedly on top during the greater part of the game. The Hongkong team, as a team, as uniformly good, and it is extremely difficult to single out in dividuals for special mention. Both backs were sound, the halves were infinitely superior to the Shanghai trio, and the forwards were well balanced and showed exellent combination. In fact, as a team, they opened the eyes of the Shanghai supporters, who, from past results, wero led to expect a comfortable victory for the home side.
There can be little doubt that the ex- hibition of football given was quite the be that has been seen in Shanghai. In spite of the heavy going the game was extreme- ly fast, nor was there anything of the drawing-room variety about it.
This leads us to another point. It in doubtful if there has ever, locally, been
