CAPTAIN'S CUP,
Opening the subject of the future de-Wayfoong "... 8 velopment of Fanling, the CHAIRMAN Aid the question of policy was one of vital! importance to the Clab. The Hos. Mr. Hallifax, who moved at the annual gen eral meeting that the ground he pur- chased for a new nine holes course, was on his way home, and the Chairman therefore, called upon Mr. A; G. FLETCHER said he felt in sympathy with those members who believed that it the Clubs had any money in hand they should spend it on the club-house, and he hoped that before long their aspira tions would be realised. But the main purpose of golf club was the playing of golf, and every other consideration The should be subsidiary to this aim.. Committee had to consider the question of how to make the game popular. There had been serious complaints as to the overcrowding on the course at Faoling, and be thought the older members of the Club were of the opinion that the com plaints were well-grounded. 3. BRIDGER seconded the proposal. Mr. A. B. STEWART proposed as an amendment That when funds and cir- cumstances permit these be devoted to the extension and improvement of the club-house at Fanling, in preference to extending the course." Mr. Stewart said he had been over the land with Messe. Greenhill and Kerr and most unfavourably impressed by it. He could not see a golf course in it without the expenditure of much money and time. A new nine holes course would not pro vide a new starting point: that was "Kek Road on Saturday night, after the point against it. Another thing was that immate had gone 1 bal. it had taken members three years to ap preciate that the relief course provided good golf. They would never appreciate a third course. Not more than 36 extra people would he accommodated by the provision of the new course. Upkeep costs would considerably increase, too. He had great sympathy with Mr. Kerr in his efforts to keep the ground coolier at work" If the Club had this new nine hole course where it was suggested if world provide an ideal resting place for the coolies. This was one of the chief drawbacks to Fan- ling. Congestion at times was simply terrible. It was hard to get a bath there on occasions, and hard to get a tiin."
Mr. E D. C. WOLFZ seconded the amendment. He thought it was highly possible that the rumour that the Club wanted to acquire land had got around amang local owners. He did not know whether the $10,000 mentioned was a firm offer he doubted it. At any rate he was in favour of the proposal of improving for Biteen minutes and finally ran down The robbers remained on the premises the club-house.
