the last quarter 118,292 tons groos of new Vessels were launched in Germany, and 41,170 tons graso Danzig. In the same period only 9,373 tous were latchout from British yards, and Germany: is thus stepping into a second place again as re- gards the output of ships.
The returns also show that 241,283 tons Igrass of new vessels were laid down in British yards during the quarter, and that quantity for all practical balances the amount of lawchings.

As compared with the figure for the quarter ended March 31st, 1923, there has been a slight increase in the tonnage launched, but a coliderable decrease in the tonnage cominenced in Great Britain and Ireland during the past quarter, tho latter tonnage only amounting to 16' par cent of the work in hand at the begin- ing of the quarter. The total merchants tonninge building in other countries is 1,206,007 tons, but this includes about 132,000 tons upon, which work has been suspended, leaving about 1,074,000 tons atually under construction; the lattor "figure is 140,000 tons less than at the end.

The total world tonnage under construc- tion 2,543.836 tong-includes 282,000 tons (of which 130,000 tons are in Great Britain!· and Ireland) on which work is suspended. The tonnage actually under construction is thus 2,282,000 tons, which total ia 1,184,000 tons below the highest pre-waci record reached on June 30th, 1913, viz, 3,146.558 tons.
There are at present under construction in the world 32 vessels of between 10,000 and 20,000 tons each and 11 of 20,000 ton and upwards; these figures includa 26 Vessels building in Great Britain and Ireland, 8 of which are of the larger size. Of the vessels under construction in the world 360 of 1,318,505 tons; are under the inspection of the Society's Surveyors, with a view to Clasification in Lloyd's Register Book.
