THE NEW STEAMERS.
The Dardanus, built by Messrs. Work- man, Clark & Co. Ltd.," Belfast, for Mesars, Alfred Holl & Co., Ltd." Liver- pool, successfully underwent her trials in Belfast Lough on June 13th, and there- after sailed for, Swansea to load for the Far East, to begin her maiden voyage un Juno 21st. Her principal dimensions aro;-Length overall, 470ft.: bram, 58ff.; and depth, ft. sin, to the upper deck. She is of about 10,000 tons deadweight, 7,700 tons gross, and 4,800 tong mit. The vessel is sub-divided by eight watertight bulkheads extending to the apper deck, and has six large holds aranged for the curringe of general cargoes, two of the holds being built to carry oil or water ballast. Hold arrangements are designed to obtain the greatest free space for bulky cargoes, such ins locomotives, rails, timber, etc. The propeling machinery is the latest type of Brown-Curtis geared tur- bines, developing 5,500 sch.p.: steam bring supplied by two large double-coded boilers fitted for forced draught and with super- heaters. State-rooms for a number of saloon passengers are fitted aniidzbijsk while the accommodation for officers.
