SEPARATION AND MAINTENANCE.
Some interesting amendments to the Batutes relating to separation orders and the maintenance of married women are proposed by a bill presented by the Home Secretary, and supported by the Attorney-General and Sir John Baird. One will enable a wife to apply for an arder on the ground of the cruelty or neglect by her hasland notwithstanding that the cruelty or neglect have not caused her to leave and live separately from him. To the section providing, that an order obtained by a inarried woman shall bo discharged upon proof that she had com- mitted misconduct, the addition is pro- posed of a provis that the Court may refuse to discharge the order if they con- sider that the misconduct was conduced to by the failure of the husband to make any payments which he was required to wake ander the order. The expression, habitual drunkard, is to include the habitual taking or using of any sedative, rcotic, or stimulant drug ur prepara- tion.
