A warm us and a clear sky make it tempting to discard winter clothes Jackets and coat that were bordered with fur bare taken on a spring ke air, for the fur is removed and, instand, is pat round a deep band of looped ribbon or braid. These loops are symmetrically arranged round the coat, starting from below the normal waist line. A narrower band on the enffs is arranged, but the collar is left quite pluin.
Smart little silk coats are embroidered all over with raphin straw in some light shade. Biscuit and black are the usual contrasting, tones, and whest ears a popular design. The hat, also in silk, is "embroidered across the front of the folded crown and the top of the brim as well. A bandbag can easily Be made to match with little trouble or expense. Black kid gloves, stitched with silk" in a biscuit shade, and black patent shoes, worn with biscuit silk stockings, make a charming afternoon toilette to wear with a neat little frock of black satin, embroidered across the bodice in shadow stitch with biscuit coloured embroidery silk.

Such.combinatious are seen a great deal at the dansants or afternoon parties. They are easy to carry out, no matter what colonr. ing is chosen, and are not too extravagant to wear anywhere.
Cloquella, a special form of quilted silk, is another attractive material for à bat and a cont worn over a plain afternoon frock. In black or in colours, cloquella is charming, soft and flexible for folds and pleats, or equally soft pulled tight. Sometimes a Chinese pattern of a mountain and castle is woven into the silk, in silver, in blue, in red or in white. It is not too loud or thick for a loose hip-length coat, while a close fitting hat of cloquelli is quite coy, Wide Chinese sleeves, and a folding stand-up collar are made for these comfortable coats, with a gay lining inside to tone with the design on top, and everything else en suite.
All sorts of queer mixtures-are to be found forming hats. Chamois leather, cut in strips. is plaited with felt. Satin and straw go to- gether, either in plaitings or wide pleatings of satin between two bands of straw. Ribbon. is popular for smallish hats. Petersham ribbon is criss-corssed all over a

working down in fine graduations to the edge of a narrow brim. Narrow looped ribbon forms crown and edge of a toque, or the up-turned brim of a marquis hat."
Silk braid, and a lace made of crinoline straw, are two of the spring novelties for making large pats. The two combined look very smart, a full crown and broad brim of the struw lace being trimmed with bands of the braid.
Large hate will be worn for all smart occasions, in crinoline, lace, or tegal straw: Simply trimmed either with broad ribbon, one large or several small flowers, they are being shown in all the best housca. Flowers and fruit are chosen more often than feathers for trimming all kinds of bats, but a quill or a bird of gay plumage gives a chic touch to close fitting hat.
An upturned brim is fashionable, perhaps not all the way round but just at one side or exactly in front. One modiste of the very front rank has taken the notion to tilt al! her hats a little on one side. It may take with a few, but the simple style of some of the very best dreases will hardly tolerate such an exaggerated movement,
Veils are large, hang down in front, at the sides, or all over the bat. An all-over veil is weighted at each end with large benda, nä it eovers a smart travelling toque. The beads at the top-several rows of them, too-cover the crown completely. The veil bangs down to well on the shoalders, and has three or four rows of the beads, so there is no fear of ita blowing away in a sudden gust of wind. The veil whose embroidery completely bides the eyes but leaves carpined lips to full view, is good to wear with a marquis hat, but the veil of silk lace in a large plain mesh is most popular for ordinary wear.
Red, red, nothing but red, meets the eye at every turn. Whoever decided that red aitould to the popular colour of spring hus had his way, for the shop windows, maks dne positively blusb until the cheeks are as red na the goods the other side of the glass. Red hate, red trimangs, Rowers, and feathers; red gloves or black gloves with rod stilebings; red umbrellas and red parasols, red sticks and motor sunshades; red baga, and red collars and coats for the dog, red pocket-handkerchiefs, and red clocks to silk stockings. Now there are even red patent leather shoes, or, white buckskin shoes picked out with red leather; and daucing toe-caps with high heels in red velvet or brocade.
The height of the heel of all shoes is lower, and it is now correct to wear not more ilan two inches Shoes for the town are made on the thinnest of Jasts, and look as if they would melt at the thought of a shower of rain. Black satin shoes, and satin in other dark sbades, "will be seen in the street more this summer than last. They are lighter and cooler than suede or patent leather, and appear to be durable for town
wear.
Shoes in the evening must match the dress to look well, and many women have them made from a piece of the material as their frock. Thus lamé shoes sparkle from beneath along skirt of lame, and cyclamen and silver brocade gives a dainty appearance to a well- shaped foot encased in the finest silk stocking.
Black patent leather is, of course, the pride of every Parisian girl; two caps and three straps and a very thin leather under. neath is all that there is of her shoe. Three straps that meet on the instep and are beld tight with a buckle is a popular form just now. The buckle is round and not very big, and my be of jet and white enamel, or filagros silver. Sparkling stones are resorved for fall evening dress, and rarely appear on piit-door shoes in Paris.
