With regard to point (2) 12 m clear that in most cases the advantages of a public supply far outweigh the disadvantage of a certain amount or unavoidable delay.
A large public supply is able to provide power more cheaply than it can be gen- It erated
by comparatively, small, units. has been proved that electric power gen crated on a large scale can be supplied to consumers ut prices, which are often below the cost of fuel nione as burnt in completely renovated and
mat private installationhigio achieved through the economies inherent in large scale production a lavourable sites, and low prices would be further accentuated as the Government would be. content with low rates of interest on
capital invested Where water "power is concerned this financial consideration is of paramount importance.
In addition the consumer would be re- lieved of beavy capital expenditure, which is often of extreme importance where the life of the undertaking is uncertain or of short duration, and in the mining in- dustry low grade alluvial could be worked successfully which would not otherwise be & commercial proposition. Large power supplies would conserve our fuel resources; they would improve our labour position, be an appreciable proportion of our coolies and artisans would be liberated owing to the reduced demands for fuel and in the running of a number of small engines and indirectly be of benefit to the com munity in many other direction. The Government confidently anticipate that the public will give their hearty co-opera tion to ensure the success of public sup- plies of electric power and fight on a large scale, as there can be but little Antagonism between the public weal and private interests.

The Government wish to make their posi tion perfectly clear." They would welcome the postponement of any installation which those interested may decide cun await future development, but if such poste ponement is inimical to present require ments, the Government would not feel justified in offering any opposition to the necessary, developments which are shown LAMB, MUTTON, BEEF, RABBITS; to be desirable..
