The soldiers kicked off, and a speil of mid-held play followed, The Navy were the first to assume the offensive, but Scouler was able, as usual, wo ward off the danger. A combined ovement by the Staff forwards caused the Nave defence considerable anxiety, but Ellarby was ruled off-side when in shooting position. Following this, Parkes, on to Navy left wing, made a brilliant run up the field, but the other forwards. were not up far enough to make us of his fine centre, and Bundle kicked the bull again well up the field. Wain, gain- ing possession, made a good run but was knocked off the ball by the right back un the penalty line. Just before the interval, Glenny was called upon to save from scramble opposite his goal.

On play being resumed, the Navy went all out for a goal, but Neuler was able to clear, and play was transferred to the opposite half. A fin break-n-way by the Navy right wing was spoiled by splendid opportunity of scoring. of the goal. After this, the Sailors had in front another opportunity to score, but Glenny saved splendidly when the Navy had his charge at their mercy. Bradbury kept his wicket intact for nearly three-quarters-of-an-hour, and then dismissed by a remarkably clever catch by Sharman, who snapped up the ball almost as soon as it left the bat. Hird and Edonde tried hard to improve the position of their side, but Baines got behind their defence. Ling rendered very useful service by hitting out in his usual care-free style. He was favoured with a little lurk in compiling 31 runs.

They started fairly well, scoring 1 runa for the loss of a wicket, but, after Sharman had been sent back by a yorker on the leg wicket from Severn, fortune did not spile on then, Bird kops such a good length that it was not possible to hit his bowling. Severo yorked both Drummond and Torr, while Ling, who relieved Severn at the end of the innings, took 2 wickets in his lust over. The Civil Ser. vice obtained a very creditable win by 121 ruus.
