THEFT OF BAGS.

Two Chinese coolies pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing 42 hemp bags from a cargo junk which was lying off Con naught Road West. They wero each sentenced to four months' hard labour," and four hours" stocks in lieu of the lust day.

A MYSTERIOUS KNIFE.

A Chinese sailor who was found to have a knife attached to a girdle, which. he was wearing, and who could, not give. a satisfactory explanation of why he was wearing it, beyond the fact that he had bought it in Holland, was fined 810 by Mr. Dyer Ball, and the knife was ordered to be confisented.

OPIUM,

A Chinese woman who was arrested on board the Hong On was found to be in possession of 25 taels of opium. It was stated that the drug was tied around the woman's waist.

Mr. Wood imposed a fine of $1,000, of, in default, four months' hard labour, and the opium was also ordered to be con- fiscated.

INCAPABLE.

Andres M. Lorsen, the ship's officer who way found drunk and incapable in Water Street, West Point, was again before Mr. Wood.

In answer to the charge, the defendant .stated that he had lost his pocket book, which contained $150, in addition to valuable papers, and that his watch and chain had also disappeared.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $5.

DISHONEST SHOPKEEPER.

Inspector Terrett summoned a Chinose shopkeeper whose scales were 45 per cent. against the purchaser. The inspector said it was one of the worst cases of faulty scales he had ever known.

THEATRE TICKETS.

get to the theatre early, buy up all the good seats, and then sell them again for bigger money. They would probably purchase the tickets for 70 cents each and sell them again for $1 each. Such men caused a lot of trouble to the outside public and also to the manager of the

theatre.

A fine of $5 was imposed.

SERIOUS ASSAULT CASE.

The case in which three Indian Naval Depot constables are charged with as- saulting an Indian Sergt. Major of Naval Police was again before Mr. Wood.

Mr. Leo D'Almada, who appeared for. The defence; said that he was instructed that the complainant's condition was not serious, and he therefore applied for the ́defendants to be allowed out on, bail.

Mr. Wood remarked that the complain- act's condition was serious, and under three circumstances he must refuse the application for bail..

The Indians were therefore further re mauded in police custody.
