The engine rooms of the Katori-mara have special interest for marine engineers, and for their information we quote from the Far East (Tokyo) a description written by Professor. F. P. Purvis, who saya -----
In the Katori-maru steam is supplied from six single ended cylindrical (or Bo-called Scotch) boilers at a pressure of 200lbs. per equare inch. In this respect little difference exists between this ship and thousands of others. It is in the machinery proper that all the essential difference occurs, From the boilers the steam passes first through 2 sets of triple expansion reciprocating engines, and from these again through the turbine and into the condenser.
