THE NEW COATEM.
Much more dainty are the new conteês than the rather stiff ones of last season. They are made in velvet moirés, soft brocades, and the fashionable bright silks, Some of the smartest are severely plain and depend on cut and "line" for their success. Those made Russian blouse fashion, finished with a sadde bolt open- ing over a waistcoat or a folded slip, ore becoming to slim figures. Basqued coatces in flowered brocades have short sleeves adged with the narrowest border of fur and outlined at the neck with a soft frill of lace or a Medici collar. THE BASH OF THE SEASON.
Now that the waist has regained its normal position on the human form, waistbelts have come into their own again. The days of simple petersham and buckle are long past, and a wealth of ingenuity i lavished on this decorative bolts and aashes that lend distinction to the season's gowns. Many evening dresses have their graceful folds girdled with a band of gold or silver tissue caught in front with jewelled ornaments. A rope of diamanté work or pearl embroidery outlines some of the more pretentious models, while folds of velvet drawn through a paste buckle give a touch of solidity to gossamer mousselines and ninons.

Startling contrasts of colour figure in some of the newest belts. That worn by Miss Ellis Jeffreys on one of her evening is a case in gowns in "Diplomacy
