CHRISTMAS GIFTS FURS AS PRESENTS.

sent through the tens of present-giving The subject of dress is looked on at pre- and receiving, and to judge from the number of fat catalogues full of tempting illustrations there is abundant provision made for present-buying by the tradesmen of London, and no doubt all over the country. It is curious to note that, apart from very splendid and costly gifts. the articles specially prepared for the gift season are mediocre as a rule. They are got up to look botter than they really are, and though this does not exactly represent the ideal spirit of giving, yet it illustrates the tendency towards putting a good face on things that characterises us all to-day. The truth is, that present-giving is becom- ing somewhat of a tax. W Vedding gifts, samo entegory as Christmas-boxes, are specially provided for in the shops just as those of the present season. The prin- ciple underlying giving seems to be not so much "the best we can," but what looks best for the money." Are we really

Autumn brides have been; if possible, excelling those of the earlier season in | kong - the beauty of their wedding gowns and the daintiness of the processions, A Babo Tudor gowns in brocade that could have receat bride chose for her bridesmaids stood alone, Elizabethan collars and small gold cape which proved most daintily Last week another bride wore becoming. her heavy lace veil Madonna fashion, with the filmiest of tulle falling over the face. As she walked up the aisle the diamonds and crystals with which her gown was om. broidered caught the light and shimmered most portically. Quantities of lovely old lace draped her silver brocade train. Here again the bridesmaids had selected a decorative period for their Pompadour panier gowns of old-rose and china-blue. With these they wore large black hats and carried Louquets of pink roses. Shepherdess dresses were worn by another set of bridesmaids, who carried crooks on which bunches of flowers were tied with coloured satin ribbons. The shepherdess hals were among the prettiest that have +been seen for many months Let va hope

CAN BE CURED ONLY BY PURIFYING THE BLOOD. For cleansing the blood of all impurities, from whatever cause arising, there is no other medicine just as good as Clarke's Blood Mixture--that's why in thousands of cases of skin and blood diseases it has effected truly remarleable cures where all other treat ments have failed.

The Editor of the "FAMILY DOCTOR,* London's popular medical weekly, writes: "We have seen hosts of letters bearing testimony to the truly wonderful cures by Clarke's Blood Mixture. It is the first Blood Purifier that Science and Medical Skill have brought to light; and we can with the utmost confidence, recommend it to our subscribers and the public generally."

SOME MORE BRIDESMAIDS. Lovely gowns were worn by the brides. maids of a bride of last week. They were in apricut silk muslim, the bodies draped with brown tulle caught with handsome ornaments to match the tasgris on the same artistic mingling of colour, in satin and velvet trimmed with shaded feathers. To complete the colour scheme each maid carried a sheaf of orchids in similar colourings to those of the dresses. It is now quite a pre-occupation with brides to secure an artistic success in the matter of bridal processions.

A HIDEOUS HAT.

Why should the Irish canbeen, one of the most hideous of head dresses, be adopted by beauty 7 It has a strange, un- finished, roughly-jolly kind of expression that assorta very badly with a poetic face. There is no gainsaying that sometimes it is a very becoming headgear, but nothing can make up for its want of dignity. Many girls really seem to study the best way to look uterly ankempt. It is a mistake.

BLACK CLOTH IN FASHION.

Some five years ago there was an abso lute rage for black cloth gowns and tailor- mades, and now it seems almost as though A a similar furore were commencing. fine black cloth is an ideal draping material, and British manufacturers have brought it to an extraordinary degres of perfection. English cloth is in demand in Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Madrid, and, in fact, all the great continental cities, just as English broadcloth is the standard material for men's coats all over the Con tinent. The Duchess of Sutherland looked extremely graceful at her Cripples Guild Sale, on Monday, wearing black cloth trimmed with akunk. She is one of the very few women who can make a short. tight gown quite graceful, so. harmonious ere her movements. To see her walk across a room is to realise what may be accomplished by careful training grafted: on a naturally good figure.

"A Good Tonic for Anybody who is Run Down."

Wordsley House, Stonnall, near Walsall. Dear Sirs, My doctor ordered me to take Apgier's Emulsion for dyspepsia and nervous nfections, arid I am very pleased to say that de has done me an immense amount of good, I have been ill for two years, but I feel I am getting stranger every day--les indigestion, eating better, and sleeping better. My bowels used to be very much constipated, but since I began taking Angier's Emulsion they have been acting regularly every morning. I like the Emulsion so much that I feel I cannot take enough of it, and often wish the doctor would order a tablespoonful instead of a dessertspoonful. I can highly recommend Asper's Emulsion as a very good tonic for anybody who, is run down. (Signed) (Mrs.) M. LEWIS.
