Hokei Nasa, the Japanese who was strested on War Department property at Lylamun, and

His Worship decided to first hear the charge of disorderly conduct.
Inspector Collett, sworn, stated that at 745 am, on April 274l'ho was in the charge-room at the Shaukiwan Tolice Station when the de fendant was brought in from the cells. The latter approached the inspector's desk und wrote something in Chinese en a slip of paper.

His Worship found the defendsal gailty and imposed a fine of $10, the alternative being seven days' imprisonment.
The second charge was then proceeded with. Master Gunvor E. H. Brown, E.G.A., stated that be arrested the defendant at 1230 midday on the 26th ult. on the ground mirrounding Lysemun Barracks Witness saw the defen- dunt underneath a fifteen-round gun and sent
"washing clothes" underneath and gave a view of the nullah by the tram terminus at Shouki- wan village, where clothes from barrack were warbed. The second was entitled "sampans" and gave a view of the west side of Lyeemum Pass with Devil's Peak in the background. The third sketch appeared to witness to be a panorama of all three. There was no one spot from which this panorama con'd be seen. The sketch was entitled "sonweed." It was in the opinion of witnem a sketch of the ground in which the three batteries by. The batteries, were not unmistakably shown as batteries, but witness was familiar with the ground and with the aid of the sketch he could make a plan shoving the batteries, two of which were on the mainland and one on the island.
His Worship-Will you say this sketch most have been made from some spot inside War Department land P
Witness-No, not necessarily. Proceeding, he said he recognised the fourth sketch as the entrance to Pakshuwan battery, and produced a sketch made by him from the same point of view. If this was correct the sketch must have been made inside War Departament land. No guns word shown. Pakshawan was a new battery and had been mounted only a month. The sketches were of no valus an they stood, but in the defen-land's hands they might be of value. His Worship-Are the drawings of any valno Witness- no artistic valus. They are sketch drawings made apparently with a view to putting in details,
The sergeant interpreter at Bhaukiwan Police Station was then called and stated that he saw the defendant pass the station weari ga Chinese robe. A plucky feat of deep-water diving has recently been accomplished in Bhio Strait, which deserves more than the scant public notice that has so far been accorded to it. The heroes of the incident aro Mr. John Milno, who is the inspector diver in the employment hore of Coode, Son & Matthews, and a Manilaman named Castilio. Both these men have lately been down to what remains of the unfortunate La Seyne, in some 150 foot of water, and have recovered a considerable quantity of valuable jewellery sad precious stones. Incidentally, they are probably the last persons who will ever see the sunken ship, which Mr. Milne reports to be rapidly breaking up through the action of the water and the swift ourrents which prevail in the Strait.
