In his experiments with coloured lights Prof. Redard, of the University of Genera, has found) that red light excites the higher norve.enutres to the extent of baing irritating, while yellow light is calming and gives a general sealing of well-being. A fur her psychia fit of the the light is a brief insensibility to pain. A six candle power electric light, enclosed in a blue glass globe, is placed a few inches in front of the patient's eyes. bis head and the lamp are covered with a bine cloth, and he is told to stara at the light and he will fel a pain. In two. or three minutes the patient is found to be in a condition of general anasthesia, which is suficiently deep to render painless any brief dental or surgical operation. Prof, Redant Las had few failures, and others Inve had simile rosetts.
Antony poisoning is thought by Dr. F. A, Pont. of Liverpool, to be a possible cause of appendicitis and other intestinal sud digestivo troullos now so common. Antimony forms nearly one third of the weight of the red rubber ringe opwashers of water bottles and fruit jars, and it is readily absorbed by this contents of such bottles and jare. Frequently repeated small doses of antimony steadily weaken the muscular coats of stompot and futestines.
A new white paint lately - patented in Germany, is claimed to be saporior to white lead in ticeness, envering power, permanence
(8) Furniture represented as "old cak." Tapestry soiled aud stained to appear old. .......
(3) A clerk ordered to znake out two invoices of goods sent abroad, one for the agent giving | and chenpress. The principal ingradbut seems the real value to sulfat, the other for the Cus. toms officer on which he "would charge duty.
These are only a few instances of the kind of thing that is perpetually brought to my uoties
as a clergyman.
Finally, I would ask business men to tell me if there is
no truth in what we are often told that milk is adulterited, that what is called batter" is not butter, that all eggs galled "fresh" are not really lately laid, that Statch mutton" sometimes comes, from New Zealand, that what is sold as "beer" is not always bear, that water is added to the weight of yarn in order to deceive, that calico which on washing loxes one-half its neight is palmed off on the public
If these things are so, how can trade be carried on without falsehood being told by someone? It is because many men are being harassed in this way in their conscientes that we clergy are alarmed. Believe me, this is why some men do not go to church.
More, perhaps are kept away by these diffculties than by the ritualism of foolish parsons, like myself, on which Royal Com missions have to sit. James Adderley The Farsonage, Saltley, Birmingham.

The Axation of the nitrogen of the air by the electrical process of Bredley and Lovejoy has proven a scientific snecek, but has not yet been develop endercially. Interest is still felt, therefore, in any means of adding artificial alkaline nitrates to our rapidly lessening stock of fertilizing waterial.
