A BANK CLERK'S DEBTS.

A Shanghai Summary Court Judgs beard recently an interesting claim by Chang Tee-too against Frank Tomaochey, for money loot in December, 1901.

Plaintiff is a No. 1 bay at the Russo-Chinese Bank and the defendant was also at that time in the employ of the same bank. Defendant admitted having had transactions with plaintiff in 1000 when he borrowed $180 and of this he paid back 889 Then ju 1911 to cover this $100 he was called upon to sign a further iou. for $200 to the plaintiff and he did so, foating that if he did not sign, it would get to the manager, and he would lose his position. Of this $200. he only paid $40.

Plaintiff went into the witness box and stated the defendant still owed bim Stou and the interest thoreau Defendant was hard up at the time and be promised to repay, the amount with interest by taostaly instalmoute of 920. He pald 32 on fuel at December, 1901, and $20 on the 3rd February, 1902, after which he left for Japan. He returned last year and since then witness had inads repeated applications to recover the money.
