particularly between the city and the Ching coast. Junks are being overhauled right and left, and the Chinuman who succeeds in getting his vessel within hailing distance of the Lino tung Peniusala is a wonder. The increasing severity of the blockede is in line with admis- sions of the Japanese just after the failure of the last big sttack on Port Arthur. when it was practically announced that future offorts would be directed toward drawing an impenetrable cordon about the situlel on the sea side.

The Busive junk with its cunning Celestial sailor, and the way it successfully came and went, have puzzled Admiral Togo and his feet, but the Admiral is now getting a line on the naughty skippers, and his torpedo boats scout the seus day and night, ready to pounce pour nowary victims.

Three hundred junks or more have been taken in tow during the last few days, accord- ing to the best information, most of them being escorted to Dalny. The protestations of their navigators are of no avail, be they to the effect that they were bound for Dalny anyhow, or that they were merely out for a sail on pleasure bent.

The Imise of operations in rounding up this indiscriminato collection of ships is the Misutan Islands, Here the feet has a sort of head- quarters. There is a repair station located on one of the islands where minor breakages are fixed up, and where the torpede-boats und emaller exaft find shelter.

Merchant steamers on their regular runs from Chefon north do not escape the vigilance of the occan sentinels. One ship arriving from Nowchwung the latter part of last wook was held up no less than three times on her way down. The mucb-talked-of blockade is becoming such in fact, and nows from Port Arthur is sifting through slowly.---Chefon Daily News.
