In these good old times the caddy identified himself with bis master, and had a personal pride in seeing vistory for his side. Then there was no lagging behind to gossip. And these old caddies were duly recognised and rewarded. Sandy Herd got a presentation watch from Mr. Whyte Melville, aga tokau of personal esteam for the faithful servant. And that gentleman played golf for about seventy years. Mr. Patrick Alexander used to give the old caddies a full suppor twice a year in John Morriss's, tolling stories and bearing their talk with great glee.
