A coral patch on top of a volcanic pinnacle rising abraptly from the bottom lies in Latitude 30 deg. 67min. see. N., Longitude 125 deg. 1min. E. It extends about a quarter of a mile in NE. and SW direstion, and is about 60 yards wide; the least depth obtained is 19 feet, but less water probably exists.
"From the SW, extreme of the patch for a distance of mile in SW. by S. direction extends a rocky legs, the least water obtained ou which was 17 fathoms
Very heavy overfalls and tide-rips wore seen on the patch, and they extended about mile NE. and I mile SW.
The shoalest spots are apparently at the extremes of the pateb. At the NE. extreme the ses was breaking occasionally, and it would probably break all ever the patch with a
uoderate sea runing
The falls and tide tips should be visible from a ship for at least a mile and with a favourable light, the. light-green colour over the coral patch should e seu from the same
distancy.
There are depths of 27 to 30 fm., sapt and mud, at a distance of about a quarter of a mile all round the patch, except where the rocky until within the limit where the bottom become volcanic rock, sccrine and broken coral.
