The inaido was now examined in that vicinity, and it was found that many of the Kirders near the leak were carried away, and, further to increase our diffealties, the pumps cassionally got choked with smull pieces..ot. iron from the abip's bottom. Under these oirot mstances the exptain decided that it was impossible to proceed to Australia; propurations were therefore made to land the ↑ Larinda,.- Brew. Accordingly the 16th, 17th, and 18th were employed in landing provisions and stores, and building tents.
June 19The wind was so strong and the son to beavy that boats could not work, and it was scarcely possible bu keep clear of the rooks under steam, so it was determined to run for the bar and make the best of it, and thie wa very cleverly done. Everybody now went to -work-trom daylight to dark landing stores and provizione. Two Frenchmen were found on the island; they said, there wh very little water and that it was seldom that a ship came in sight; however, our people found water on the high land, and we soon nigged up a condensing apparatus near the beach, which will supply all needful purposes so long as fuel lagte. There is a good deal of gras ob the island, and there are many wild goats, also amall wild onbbage, carrots, and cellary; fish and craylab abundant, and easily caught.
